  • November 23: Twilight 5K Benefiting Movember

Series Details

Signing up. Participants in any race in the series are automatically signed up, but you need to complete at least three races to qualify for an award.

Awards. We’ll give awards for the overall series champions (first through third place, male and female). In addition, you can win an award for finishing in the top three in your age group (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+).

How it’s scored. Every participant in any of the races is automatically entered. You can earn up to 100 points per race based on your time; the first-place finisher for each gender gets 100, and the points for other finishers are based on your relative time. So if first place is 20:00 and you finish in 21:00, you get 20 / 21 * 100 points, or 95 points.

You get bonus points for finishing in the awards: 10 for first, 7 for second, and 5 for third overall, and 5 for first, 3 for second, and 1 for third in age group. You can earn an additional 10 points for completing all races in the series (and in this case, your worst race performance will be dropped).

We will tally up the points for each race and publish standings by Monday afternoon following each race.

If you notice an error in the standings, you have a week after each event to email us at info@davidsontiming.com to let us know of the problem, and we’ll do everything we can to fix the error.

Our sponsors are a huge part of Miles for Marnie. We appreciate your support of our efforts to find a cure Pediatric Cancer. In 3 years, the Marnie Jude Foundation has been able to donate $55,500 toward Pediatric Cancer Research.

Pediatric Cancer has affected numerous families in our area. These young heroes have inspired us to ensure a cure is found for all children diagnosed with cancer. One out of every five children diagnosed with cancer dies. To us, that is unacceptable.

The 2nd annual Miles for Marnie saw over 300 participants enjoy a great race. We expect 500 participants for our 3rd annual race. We welcome your support of our endeavors to find a cure for Pediatric Cancer through research. Please see our sponsorship levels and benefits via the link below.

2013 Calendar:

Series Details

Signing up. Participants in any race in the series are automatically signed up, but you need to complete at least three races to qualify for an award.

Awards. We’ll give awards for the overall series champions (first through third place, male and female). In addition, you can win an award for finishing in the top three in your age group (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50+).

Pick Your Poison 5K and 10K, Davidson, NC

June 9, 2012

Click here to view overall results for the Pick Your Poison 5K and 10K!

What’s your ideal race? Is it a super-challenging 10K that starts up a 10% grade, climbs 150 feet, loops back down to the start, and repeats it, three times!?!? Or is it a gorgeous, pancake-flat 5K along a greenway and wide paths, through an idyllic pastoral landscape?

We’ve concocted an event that achieves both ideals. If you’re a glutton for punishment, sign up for the toughest road 10K within 50 miles. If you like your races flat and scenic, you’ll want to run the beautiful 5K course. (If you’re running the ROC series, make sure you sign up for the 5K). Both races are equally beautiful, but one runs up the side of a hill while the other runs through flat meadows.

Runners that register before May 30 will get a fantastic technical race T shirt featuring the custom Pick Your Poison logo; after that shirts will be distributed while supplies last.

The Courses
These are two of the most beautiful races you’ll ever run, but while the 10K will be one of the most challenging, the 5K will be one of the most pleasant. The 10K is entirely on paved roads and greenways, while the 5K is half on paved greenways and half on wide, unpaved paths.

10K runners repeat the same quad-burning loop three times, running through the finish line each time. 5K runners run their loop just once.

Davidson Timing to Coordinate New 5K and 10K Racing Series

North Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties are hotbeds of both casual and competitive running. They also share an amazing spirit of community pride and goodwill. That’s why Davidson Timing has decided to team up with local race directors to create the ROC Series, a set of nine 5K and 10K running races presented by Presbyterian Sports Medicine.

ROC stands for “Running for Our Communities,” and each event in the series benefits a different local cause, from pet centers to community centers, from preserving green spaces to building stronger schools. “These events draw hundreds of runners and raise thousands of dollars for the causes that matter most, but we think we can do more,” says Davidson Timing co-owner and Davidson Area Running Team co-founder Chad Randolph. “We know there are thousands of runners in the area; we want to offer them an opportunity to track their progress throughout the year.”

Randolph, who is planning a new race in June to benefit a new park at Abersham in Davidson, believes a series of races will be just the incentive local runners need to stay closer to home when they race, so when his running buddy and Vice President of the Davidson Lands Conservancy Rodney Graham suggested the idea of a race series, he jumped at the chance. Graham (also now a Davidson Town Commissioner) gathered directors of some of the most popular races in the area, who agreed to join together in creating the Presbyterian Sports Medicine ROC series of races.

Runners who sign up for any of the events in the series will automatically be entered in the ROC Series and awarded points based on their finishing time in each event. After each race, which span from April 14 (the Paws Too Run 5K in Davidson) to December 8 (the Huntersville 5K), runners can visit the ROC Series website (http://ROCseries.com) and see how they rank in the standings. Only the best seven performances will count, but runners can get bonus points for participating in all nine events.

After the final event, the overall winners and the winners in each age group will be invited to an awards party to receive their prizes, including shoes provided by Brooks and Fleet Feet and custom fleece ROC Series jackets. “We think the ROC Series is a great way to keep local runners interested in the races here in their own back yards,” Randolph says.
